Job Description
Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and maintain shared automation frameworks, internal services, and developer tools.
- Own test strategy and execution for backend APIs, microservices, and end-to-end business workflows across component, contract, integration, and system levels.
- Develop code-based automation with reusable setup and cleanup, data-driven scenarios, dependency isolation, failure reporting, mocking, parameterized execution, and parallel execution.
- Validate business rules, API contracts, data persistence, authorization, error handling, service compatibility, asynchronous processing, and distributed-system failure conditions.
- Establish automated checks in continuous integration and delivery pipelines to improve feedback speed and reduce flaky tests.
- Validate cloud-hosted services and deployment configurations and troubleshoot failures using logs, telemetry, and infrastructure evidence.
- Assess performance and resilience risks, design targeted tests, communicate quality risks, and collaborate with engineers on improvements.
- Review requirements and architecture, communicate technical findings, mentor engineers, and independently drive complex testing work.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Typically 6–8 years of software testing or engineering experience, including at least 3 years focused on backend APIs and service-based architectures.
- Substantial hands-on experience developing test automation frameworks and integrating them into automated delivery pipelines.
- Strong proficiency in a general-purpose programming language and the ability to design, review, and debug maintainable test code.
- Deep understanding of API testing, microservice interactions, service contracts, and distributed application behavior.
- Practical experience testing and troubleshooting public-cloud applications involving identity and permissions, networking, compute, storage, and messaging dependencies.
- Experience with continuous integration and delivery, source control, automated quality checks, environment configuration, and database querying.
- Preferred experience includes property and casualty insurance, event-driven architectures, complex third-party integrations, performance and resilience testing, service-level security testing, and improving automation reliability, execution time, or defect detection.
Benefits
- Remote-first work from anywhere in the U.S., excluding U.S. territories, with optional local-office access in the San Francisco Bay Area or Providence, Rhode Island.
- Core collaboration hours are 9 AM–2 PM Pacific time, with occasional travel generally not required.

- One-time $2,000 home-office equipment and furniture payment and a fully provisioned MacBook Pro.
- Four weeks of PTO in the first year and twelve weeks of fully paid parental leave for birthing and non-birthing parents.
- Up to $5,000 annually for professional learning and development, LinkedIn Learning subscriptions, and BetterUp coaching opportunities.
